National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Terrorism

11 march
Paris

On 11 March 2026, President Emmanuel Macron presided over the national ceremony paying tribute to the victims of terrorism, held this year in front of the Statue of the Word, erected in memory of the victims of terrorism, at the Hôtel national des Invalides.
This day honours the memory of the victims, keeps their stories and their commitments alive, and reaffirms the nation’s tribute and support for the victims and their loved ones.
Established in 2019 following an initiative led by several victims’ associations, it forms part of the European Day for the Victims of Terrorism, commemorated on the same day in several European countries, and was chosen to mark the date of the Madrid bombings on 11 March 2004, one of the deadliest attacks in Europe’s recent history. Since its inception, official ceremonies have been held every year in the presence of the authorities, representatives of associations and the victims’ loved ones.
The Museum & Memorial of Terrorisme was represented by its president, Henry Rousso, and its director-general, Elisabeth Pelsez.
