9/11 Commemorations: An Online Educational Session for School Classes

To mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York is offering a free online educational session for teachers and their students: the 9/11 Anniversary Digital Learning Experience.

This online event, which brings together classes from many countries around the world, requires a good command of English. It is primarily intended for students taking specialized courses in English (Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures, and Cultures—LLCER, or Contemporary World English—AMC), but is also open to students in European sections (English) in France and abroad, as well as students in British and American international sections.

A Two-Part Program

The program includes a 30-minute film, available for free on-demand starting September 11, 2026, as well as a live chat with members of the museum’s team throughout the day. The film features firsthand accounts from witnesses to the attacks and their aftermath: survivors, relatives of victims, and first responders.

Notable participants include Richard Eichen, who was on the 90th floor of the North Tower at the time of the impact and helped a colleague evacuate despite a serious head injury; Terri Tobin, a NYPD lieutenant who survived the collapse of the South Tower and continued rescue operations despite severe injuries, before rising to the rank of assistant chief in 2019; as well as the children of victims, James and Patrick Dowdell, whose father, a New York City Fire Department lieutenant, went missing in the collapse of the South Tower, and Caitlyn McIntyre and Olivia Perez-Johntry, who both lost their fathers that day and have since dedicated their lives to honoring the victims of 9/11.

To prepare for the classroom session

A free online training session is available for teachers who wish to familiarize themselves with the program and its educational resources before September 11, 2026.

The program is in English and will be subtitled. Audio descriptions and transcripts will also be available.
