On 6 December 2024, the mission of the Museum & Memorial of Terrorism learned of the government's decision to end the presidential project to create the Museum & Memorial of Terrorism, which was to open in Suresnes in 2027. This decision was taken unilaterally, without any consultation of the project leaders, without knowing anything about its progress and without warning the associations of victims of terrorism, involved for several years in the creation of this place of memory and history.
The guidelines that have been announced are in complete lag with the essence of the project as it has been designed:
A few weeks from 2025, commemorating the extremely murderous year of 2015 and on behalf of all victims in France and French victims abroad for several decades, we denounce the absurdity of stopping the project as it has been shaped for six years.
The multiplicity of support and messages that have reached the mission since yesterday are all reasons to mobilize. The commitment of the President of the Republic to build a museum-memorial unique to the world must be held so that everyone, and in particular future generations, can remember this part of the history of our country and the way in which France courageously faced this phenomenon.
To resist terrorism is to have the courage to confront it, including through knowledge and culture, and to give it the means as has been repeated repeatedly at every commemoration, every anniversary of tragedies, every new attack.
That's our only ambition.
